Experience

Rodrigo has been a partner since 2010 and joined the firm in 1996.

He practices in the areas of Banking and Finance law, Capital Markets and Foreign Investments, advising commercial and investments banks, investment funds, multilateral agencies, export credit agencies (ECAs) and financial institutions, and Chilean companies in financing transactions of different nature (bilateral and syndicated loans, club deals, structured finance and others), project financing, financial restructurings, issuance of equity and debt securities and other financial transactions.

He advises on a regular basis multinational consortiums, investors, sponsors and developers, local and international banks and financial entities in project financings related to generation and distribution power projects, particularly, renewable power projects, port infrastructure projects, urban and inter-urban railways, Chilean public works concession projects and others. He has frequently advised important Chilean state-owned companies, such as the Empresa de Transporte de Pasajeros Metro S.A. (Metro) and the Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE) in a number of local and international banking transactions and issuance of notes program in the local and international capital markets (144A-REG S notes).

  • Chilean, Foreign and International Banks. He regularly advises Chilean banks such as Scotiabank Chile, Banco de Crédito e Inversiones, Banco Itaú Chile, Banco Santander Chile and Banco del Estado de Chile, and foreign and international banks such as Natixis, DNB Bank ASA, Inter American Development Bank, IDB Investment Corporation, Rabobank, The Royal Bank of Scotia, BNP Paribas, Citibank, Commerzbank, Mizuho Bank, The Bank of Nova Scotia, among others.
  • Borrowers and Guarantors. He advises borrowers from a variety of industries, such as energy companies, Enel Chile and Enel Américas in a number of recent cross-border financings, including financings subject to SDG /Sustainable Development Goals/, Grupo Soltec and others; State-owned companies such as Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado and Metro S.A. in a number of banking transactions and issuance of note programs in the local and international capital markets; and fuel distributions companies, such as Grupo Esmax, among others.
  • Project Finance. He has advised arrangers and lenders in a number of power projects (hydroelectric, solar and eolian projects, among others), ports (Puerto Central, Puerto San Antonio, San Vicente Terminal Internacional, Puerto Mejillones), public works concession projects (Concesión Ruta del Maule, Concesión Rutas del Loa, Concesión Autopistas de Antofagasta, Concesión Hospital de Antofagasta, etc.) and airports, among others.
  • Capital Markets. He regularly advises placement agents and financial advisors (such as Banchile, Scotiabank Chile, Banco Santander Chile, Banco de Crédito e Inversiones and Banco Itaú Chile, among others); and issuers of private and public offerings of securities in the international and local capital markets, including State owned companies such as the Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE) in public local offerings since 2012 and 144A – REG S notes programs; the Empresa de Trasporte de Pasajeros Metro S.A. (Metro) in a number of local bonds issuance and 144A – REG S notes programs; and a number of other issuers in registering, offering and placing securities such as Compañía de Cervecerías Unidas, Esmax, Transbank, Chilquinta Energía and others.
  • Aviation Law. He advised for many years Delta Airlines Inc. (US and the Chilean Branch) and Alitalia (Italy and the Chilean Branch) regarding the commencement of commercial operations and permits in Chile and in all regulatory matters related to their activities in the country.
