María José has been an associate of our firm since 2021. She is involved in the Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Consumer Law, Venture Capital, Fishing and Aquaculture, Hotels, Resorts and Casinos, Energy and REP Law practices. Previously, she served as Chief Legal Officer of Emprende Inteligente, advising more than 350 diverse clients, mostly smaller companies and startups, since its inception, meeting all their requirements of different nature, corporate, labor, tax and even accounting. Previously, she was a Reviewing Attorney at the Real Estate Registry of Rancagua, acquiring great experience in matters related to notary and registry law, such as real estate registration, water rights, prohibitions, mortgages and liens, subdivision and real estate co-ownership, among others.
She specializes in advising domestic and foreign clients in corporate, commercial and civil matters, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring transactions, civil and commercial contracting and due diligence processes, including fishing and aquaculture matters in such processes.
In Venture Capital and Start up matters, she has participated in due diligence processes of this type of companies and the granting of Stock Options and its regulation for the employee pool, as well as in capital raising rounds, negotiation of MOUs and other necessary documentation, and the opening to international markets.
In terms of the REP Law, María José has been advising and actively participating in the implementation of two of the five collective management systems existing in the country whose mandatory nature stems from the Extended Producer Responsibility Law (REP Law) since its genesis, i.e. GIRO on the Packaging side and VALORA+ on the tire side, with requirements of the most diverse nature.
In the Energy area, she participated in the pre-qualification and bidding process of ECONSSA for the Treatment For The Reuse And Commercialization Of Antofagasta’s Sewage Water.
In addition, she advised and actively participated in the negotiation of a water supply contract for the achievement of an important sustainable project, in which Hidrosur, of the Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) group will supply treated wastewater to an important company in the mining industry, giving a new use to such water.
In relation to Gaming Casinos, María José has participated in bidding processes for the awarding of permits for gaming casinos, collaborating in the preparation of background presentations and in the elaboration of comprehensive projects before the administrative authority, in addition to negotiating with partners (joint ventures) and responding to the Superintendence of Gaming Casinos.
In relation to Consumer Law issues, she advises clients on Consumer Law matters, mainly in matters of Product Safety, Recall campaigns, warranty and supplier obligations, including advice in relation to the attributions and powers of the National Consumer Service.
